Farley Mowat and the Bible

Printer-friendly versionPDF version

This week, Canada mourns the death of one of its literary giants. Farley Mowat died on May 6 – a few days short of his 93rd birthday.

He was known for his many stories that were somewhat autobiographical and endorsing  environmental concerns. Some accused him of exaggerating the facts and he acknowledged that his writing style was somewhere between fact and fiction. One thing is for sure – he often inspired passionate debate and controversy and got people talking about nature.

It is said that his books were translated into 52 languages and around 17 million copies were sold. However, as popular as his works are, the Holy Bible has been even more popular. It has been translated into more than 450 languages. The estimated number of Bibles that have been sold runs from 2.5 to 6 billion!  There is one similarity between the Bible and Farley Mowat’s books. While millions regard it as the inspired word of God, there are those who also claim that the Bible is more fiction than fact.

If you would like to see how you can prove that the Bible is factual, check out the booklet Is the Bible True. The booklet shows that archaeology and science confirm rather than undermine the authenticity of the Bible. It will further show that the Bible contains its own test of its genuineness through fulfilled prophecy.
