Why Were You Born?

Printer-friendly versionPDF version

In 1946 Viktor Frankl wrote the book, Man’s Search For Meaning: An Introduction to Logotherapy. The book chronicled his experiences in the Auschwitz concentration camp and what he learned from the horrific experience. It has been classified as being in the top ten most influential books published in the United States.

Dr. Frankl concluded that the meaning of life is found in each moment of existence. He believed that even in dire circumstances each of us have a choice of how we will react and whether we will look for hope.

Each of us have been touched by someone who has lost hope and committed suicide because his/her life no longer seemed to have meaning or purpose. Perhaps that is because we often do not stop to consider the wonderful purpose of life. Perhaps we should more often ask ourselves, “Why was I born? What is my purpose in life?” A broader question is, “Is there a reason or purpose for human life?”

The good news is that we were put here for a very exciting purpose! Recently the United Church of God sponsored a seminar entitled, “Why Were You Born?” It has been posted online for you to watch.

Another good resource is the booklet, What Is Your Destiny?  It systematically studies the subject to show that there is plenty to look forward to. It provides concrete hope that what Viktor Frankl said is especially needed whenever we go through a crisis. You are invited to download your copy or request a free copy to be mailed to you.
