Back to School

Printer-friendly versionPDF version

It is that time of year again! Over the past few weeks, many stores have had “back to school” sales featuring what students will need in the classroom this fall. Parents have, no doubt, had conversations with their children regarding what they really need and the family can afford versus what the child wants or what merchants promote.

More and more, the increasing cost of outfitting a child for school with school supplies and new clothes for the school year has become more of a financial burden. I recently spoke to parents who were required to purchase $70 worth of school supplies for their child who was only entering kindergarten!

Sending a child off to school can be traumatic in more ways than just financially. They enter a school system that increasingly has teachings opposed to our Christian values. They are around other children – some of whom are bullies or behave badly. They are likely to be exposed to conduct that they do not see in their own home.

As they progress through school, an underlying teaching they are exposed to is the evolutionary theory. That teaching is one of the greatest threats to a child’s belief in a Creator God. What can Christian parents do to help combat the idea that a belief in creation is somehow opposed to science?

The e-booklet Answers From Genesis explores the creation of the universe as recorded in the Bible. It examines a great deal of scientific research that actually confirms what has been recorded in the Bible. Each student should at least know that the Bible is scientific and that this can be established from reliable sources.
